»Absolute Wilson«by Katharina Otto-Bernstein
2006 | Documentary | 105 min
» www.filminc.com/projects.asp

ABSOLUTE WILSON chronicles the epic life, times and creative genius of Robert Wilson, intimately revealing for the first time one of the most controversial, rule-breaking and downright mysterious artists of our era. More than a biography, the film becomes an exhilarating exploration of the transformative power of creativity itself – and the inspirational tale of a boy who grew up as a troubled and learning-disabled outsider in the American South only to become a fearless artist with a profoundly original perspective to share with the world. Along the way, the film introduces an array of admirers, friends and critics – ranging from musician David Byrne to the late writer Susan Sontag to composer Phillip Glass and singer Jessye Norman.

»The Unknown Soldier – What did you do in War, Dad?«by Michael Verhoeven
2006 | Documentary | 97 min

The Wehrmacht-Exhibition, showed in eleven major cities in Germany challenged an established social taboo. Up to that point, the image of the 'morally proper' German forces had been kept up in the public debate in Germany. Suddenly, there were photos of Wehrmacht officers killing civilians. The nation was severely shaken. Michael Verhoeven has traced some of the unknown crimes the Wehrmacht is alleged to have committed - presenting unpublished documents. Verhoeven has filmed in places of terror in the Ukraine and Belarus.

»Rembetiko«by Costas Ferris Drama | 148 min | colour | New! Directors Cut

The story of a great popular singer of rembetiko songs who born in Smyrna in 1919 and died in Athens in 1956. The heroine´s travels, loves, professional successes and personal disasters.
All this and a distinctive look at the events that played an important role in Greek history in the first half of the twentieth century, is accompanied by the music of Stavros Xarhakos, written to lyrics by the poet Nikos Gatsos. »The Rose King«by Werner Schroeter 1986 | Drama

In a solitary region in Portugal, three people are drawn into a fatal dream. Chained to each other, they go mad in the cursed Rose House. Anna, who foresees the merciless death, her brutal son Albert, who is searching for the perfect rose and Fernando, a mute and a submissive victim. When Albert catches the mute man in the act of robbing the offertory box, he takes him prisoner and forces him to be his lover. The love relationship between the men becomes increasingly excessive. The prisoner flees only to return and voluntarily put himself back in chains. This continues until the image of the lover begins to merge more and more with that of the ideal rose. Anna can't prevent a sex killing - Albert oversteps all limits in his ritual sex and kills when he reaches his climax. A symbolically charged parable about love, suffering and death.

coffee beans for a life
»Coffee Beans for a Life« (Mein Überleben in Kolbuszowa) by Helga Hirsch 2005 | Documentary 90 min

Norman Salsitz was born 84 years ago as Naftali Saleschütz, youngest son of a large Jewish family. In 1945 he immigrated to the US and only now he returns to Kolbuszowa, the town he still calls “Heimat” in his heart. Together with his daughter and grandsons, he visits his former home, now a shop run by Poles, he shows the place where his father was shot and the graveyard where he was buried. He remembers and shares his memories - also of how he became guilty, how he survived and how he took revenge. Norman’s honest character and precise memory, his curiosity and his frankness create an unusual picture of cruelty and sympathy, fear and hope, yearning, disappointment and love.

Max und Moritz reloaded
Max und Moritz reloadedby Thomas Frydetzki 2005 | Black Comedy 87 min
An anarchical, politically incorrect, black comedy.

The underage brothers Max and Moritz are enjoying their life of petty crime and vandalism in Hamburg. Their mother, who is completely overburdened with their upbringing, has given up on them. After stealing and crashing of one of the Hamburg Senator’s cars – with his daughters in it - the two scoundrels are sent to an East German boot camp. Two former East German officers who still believe in communist education run the camp. And this is just the beginning of chaos and a real clash of civilisations.

35 Years Filmverlag der Autoren 1971-2006
Filmverlag der Autoren was formed as a filmmakers' co-operative in the 1970's. It represented a reaction against the established popular German Cinema ('Grandpa's Cinema').The subjects of the films created were an expression of the political, social and economic circumstances of that time, and a critique of them as well. Until the late 1990's, the co-operative's spirit had a strong influence on filmmakers in Germany.
“Filmverlag der Autoren” distributed during the last 35 years the films of well known directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Volker Schlöndorff, Alexander Kluge, Helma Sanders-Brahms, Percy Adlon, Bernhard Sinkel, Michael Verhoeven, Reinhard Hauff, Margarete von Trotta and many more.
